What is the meaning of the term “bespoke”?
Interestingly, the term dates back to the 17th century, when tailors would keep bolts of fabric in their shops. When the customer selected his material, the fabric was reserved---or spoken for, hence the term “bespoke”. Today, it still means essentially the same thing: Your desired garment will be completely unique to yourself.
What is the usual procedure for acquiring a custom made suit?
First, please review our upcoming schedule of appearances by clicking “Where we’ll be”. Then either call us, send an email or use the form to your left to make an appointment. Each appointment should take about an hour. We will get acquainted with your needs, take precise body measurements in 35 areas, and photograph your posture from different angles. This data is ultimately condensed and forwarded to our master Hong Kong tailors.
What does “single needle” refer to?
A single row of stitching at the seam, used in high quality garments to facilitate comfort and greater wearability.
What is the “yoke” of a shirt?
The yoke is a design element located at the top of a shirt, skirt, pants or shorts, and is cut separately to create a pieced illusion. Yokes are sometimes cut on the bias or cross-grain to define a style (for example, the cloth over the shoulders on Cowboy style shirts.)
What is a “stay”?
A single line of stitching through one layer of fabric, providing enhanced stabilization and reduced risk of stretching and distortion.
Do you keep measurements on file?
Yes. Measurements are uploaded to our database for easy future retrieval. The only time we would have to re-measure would be in the case of significant weight loss or gain.
How long does it take for a suit to arrive?
From the time of your appointment and selection of fabric and style, it will take 4-5 weeks to make the garment. It may be possible to rush delivery in as soon as 2-3 weeks.
